“Monserrate’s role in a leadership coup that effectively shut down the state Senate for a month, and his recent conviction for assaulting his girlfriend, have left him ineffective,” says Queens Assemblyman Jose Peralta, who has stepped up and has received the backing of fellow Democrats to replace this walking disgrace.
